    “Iberostar Mojito ”
We returned from our first trip to Iberostar Mojito a few days ago...we definitely wont be going back. In reading all the positive reviews it makes me wonder if we were at the same place. In general the staff was lovely, friendly and helpful and the resort itself is beautiful. The problem for us was the lack of hygiene...no handsoap in the washrooms is unacceptable. In the washroom by the beach there was no toilet paper or handsoap. I found it shocking that staff didn't bother trying to create the impression that they had an expectation of ever finding soap in the dispenser. They rinsed their hands in cold water and carried on. It disturbs me that food handlers didn't use gloves to touch food...if they have no access to soap how safe is anything that I ate?? I found the birds in the snack bar disgusting...in an area where basic sanitation is difficult, why add bird poo to the mix?? Our room was pretty awful, the water was never hot in the week we were there, the pillows defied explanation...dirty and smelly tubes of foam. In my opinion, the gardeners always trying to sell stuff was bothersome. I had an incident on a pathway to the main building. The tiles are raised and are staggered for some reason. There was no lighting along the walk and my cane missed a tile and I fell...luckily my ankle was only sprained. The nurse was prompt courteous and helpful. To me, small but important things can be changed to make Mojito more desireable; please please please address the sanitation issues. I have unrelenting diarrhea and I am not amused. Should I be considering cholera? The grounds were thoroughly sprayed for bugs but its not enough. Please address the lighting of the pathways...its dark so early and the tiles being raised is a serious issue. It was definitely nice to escape the weather we missed in Ontario but we were not impressed with Iberostar Mojito.

“Overall a good time! The great, the good, and not so good ”
My husband and I just returned from our trip November 7 - 14, 2014 and here is our review: The great: Staff! (Shout outs to Anabel - Sales Manager, Ezequiel & Elien at the buffet, Alex at the pool bar, Yamil at the a la carte, Yvette - cleaning staff, and the lovely gentleman who is in charge of the beach chairs and huts at the beach), Cigar Lounge (a must in the evening!) The good: Beach (minus the tide), pools, shade options at pools & beach, well manicured grounds, overall atmosphere, beverages, room cleanliness, air conditioning & water pressure & temperature in the room, fresh made stations at the buffet, fruits and breads at buffet, the pizza at La Sirenas, and the Michael Jackson show! Not so good: some of the language in the songs played by the DJ at the pool (swearing in some of the songs), lack of toilet paper in the common bathrooms, hot food selections at the buffet (not the stations), and birds at the La Sirenas restaurant by the pool. Not so good that is out of the control of the hotel: mosquitos, and high tide at the beach. This was our first time to the Iberostar Mojito, and my second time to Cayo Coco and my husband's third time to Cayo Coco. We did overall enjoy our stay at the Mojito and did enjoy the service and staff at the hotel. Like many others have reviewed, the staff are fantastic. The pool area was nice with fun activities, good drinks courtesy of Alex, and ample shade and sun options around the pool. Due to the high tide at the beach, although my husband and I are beach lovers, we spent our mornings at the pool. I'm not sure if it was because the time of year, but we couldn't head down to the beach until the afternoon because the tide was too high in the morning. There was nowhere to sit, put your towel, and the huts were knocked over somewhat in the morning. I can't imagine the work that the staff had to do each morning to get the beach ready for the afternoon guests who wanted to enjoy the beach. When we did have the beach, it was lovely and sandy with clear blue water. The atmosphere and service at the a la carte restaurants was good, but we didn't care for the food that much and actually preferred the food at the buffet. The stations at the buffet were good - omelets, pancakes/French toast, smoothies (breakfast) and pasta, meats/fish (dinner). The atmosphere, entertainment, and drinks at the Cigar Lounge was really fun and we had a great time there! A must see! There are a few small suggestions that I would make to the hotel: 1) There are a number of songs played at the pool with swearing which would have upset me if I was a parent of small children. This is an easy fix: obtaining the family friendly versions of these songs or play more Cuban music. 2) Handing out hotel surveys upon check-out or multiple times during the week. We were handed a survey to fill out on the second day we were there and it did not allow us to provide a true picture of our experience. 3) Toilet paper replenishment in the common bathrooms. I went to 2 different bathrooms one day (the one by the shops and one by the stage) and there was no toilet paper in any of the stalls in either of them. Easy fix: staff should check toilet paper more often. The above are just small minor issues that could easily be addressed. My husband and I did enjoy our time at the Iberostar Mojito and had good weather and may be back someday.
