“Horrible, Horrible Horrible ”
I should have listened to all the other reviews. But unfortunately I read them "After" I booked. This is the worst place I have ever stayed in. Very, Very dirty. Some weird unexplainable smells in the main dinning room. Place needs a huge renovation. Paint peeling in lots of areas, chipped tiles everywhere. Some people say the staff was very helpful and could speak english well. They must have changed staff sometime because we had the opposite problem. They were good with phrases they knew but if they asked you anything they pretended not to understand or possibly could not. My husband had occasion to go to the nurses room. She could not even understand what he was trying to convey to her and then told him they could do nothing. If you have a health issue (which I am sure the trots is common) they should be prepared to give you something. Not even in the resort store did they have any medicinal product. We knew nothing about what was available during our stay. They would blare it out in spanish on the microphone and when it was in english you could not understand it anyways. And the info they posted up in places was in spanish as well. Figuring that 85% of tourists are english speaking Canadians they should make more of an effort to make you feel welcome. The food was terrible with the exception of the omelet bar. He was awesome. The female who took over on his days off was not good at all. Several people ahead of me had to get her to recook theirs. There was no consistancy to the preparation of food from day to day. One day the pancakes were done just right and the next day they were smaller and burnt. Same with the toast. The one that really got to me was the milk sitting on a cold tray but then overhead lights on which defeats the purpose. My husband who loves milk could not stomach it warm. The BBQ they held down by the other gazebo was okay. They should have taken more measures to keep the food out of the sun however. Melting desserts was not good. The beach was awesome and the pool was clean but the swimup bar at the other pool was not swimup, You still had to get out of the water and walk around the front. The drinks where good, small and in crazy glasses but very watered down. And no straws at some of the bars. Not good drinking when the ice hits you in the face. One more major thing. There are 2 banks of elevators, One set did not work at all and the set near reception had only one working. and then only occassionaly, The staff also use this elevator to ferry their casts up and down the levels. One elevator stopped on the 11-13 floors which is really weird as there are only 5 floors. I had to walk down 4 flights of stairs frequently and I have leg issues and should not be doing that. The "bellboy" is called by ringing a bell on the desk. We waited 20 min for him to show up to unlock the storage area where our luggage was. We almost missed our bus to the airport. We thought we had plenty of time as we had given ourselves 45 min to get ready. Not very helpful at all. They need another way of communicating with him as dinging the bell 5 times in 15 minutes obviously did not work. No condiments of any kind or anything to put on your toast in the morning. I will never recommend this hotel to anyone and PLEASE, PLEASE read these reviews before you waste your money. Dirty conditions, substandard food, very few lights that work especially at night. I will never, every go back to Cuba. There are better resorts out there whose beaches are just as nice or better
“This is NOT 4 stars, very poor resort! ”
We were very disappointed in this resort. Very run down and obvious there is very little money going into the resort for service and up-keep. The food was horrible, no variety, un-ripened fruits and vegetables, very bland, we found little rocks in every rice dish served through-out the week, cold food that should be served hot and very little bottled water available. The buildings were poorly lit, most of the light sockets did not even have bulbs in them. There was no soap available for hand washing at ANY of the public washrooms and toilet paper was scarce. All of the paper products (napkins, toilet paper) were the cheapest, lowest level paper products available (spit-through stuff) and no napkins at the buffets or restaurants. Toilet seats were missing from public washrooms... really i could go on and on. Not a destination that I would ever recommend to anyone. Spend a few hundred more and go to 5 stars!
